The Hotel Neptune in Tamatave really makes its presence felt in the bustling seaside port. Situated on the main street just across from the beach the hotel is close to the main shopping and banking areas and there are several restaurants close by. There is a casino and a nightclub at the hotel, so if you are keen for a bit of late night partying then you won't have to leave the hotel, the locals frequent the venue. The smart but not over-plush rooms have brand-new bathrooms, old-fashioned balconies, TV, minibar and white linen, but no mosquito nets. Although the sea view may be what you are after, we advise you don't take one of the seaview rooms as the noise from the disco and outdoor bar will probably keep you up at night!
Tamatave is one of the busiest ports in Madagascar and there is plenty to see and do in the town. Explore the local markets in search of bargains, go for a ride in a rickshaw, sample the local food cooked right on the street and venture out of town in search of lemurs in the nearby nature reserves.
It's worth noting that the waters around Tamatave are considered very dangerous because the local slaughterhouses wash out directly into the ocean which attracts a large number of sharks to the area.
