Mchenja Bush Camp is situated on the banks of the Luangwa River in the 9050 square kilometre South Luangwa National Park. It is the only bush camp that operates during the wet season - enjoy boat cruises down the river, spotting wildlife along the way. During February and March (the wet season), it can only be reached by boat. It is closed from November to January and during April.
Accommodation comprises five unique tents, each with a private deck that opens out onto the Luangwa River, the lifeblood of the park. The tents each have a thatched roof to offer respite from the elements and there is an inside bath and outside shower. Mchenja is one of the best equipped lodges in South Luangwa and ensures a private and intimate stay. Stay cool in the sparkling swimming pool during the day and in the shade under the thatched lodge. The bar provides ice-cool drinks all day long so you can spot game with a cocktail close by at all times.
Experience a boat cruise down the waterways and spot game along the Luangwa River from your private deck or while sipping a cocktail at the bar. And if you are feeling adventurous then join a walking safari through South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa's greatest game reserves. These safaris recreate the sense of 'wildest Africa' as you track animals across rivers and through the bush. This gives you the amazing opportunity to see, smell, hear and feel Africa on foot. It is 100% safe and you will be accompanied at all times by an experienced and armed ranger. Lion and other predators often frequent this area and you may spot them along the river bed or on game drives during the day and night.
Plus Mchenja is just a short walk from Kakuli Bush Camp so why not combine both destinations on your walking safari?
