Wilderness Safaris' Shumba Camp is situated in Kafue National Park, one of the largest and most spectacular national parks in Africa. It comprises of spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms with spectacular views of the surrounding plains. The rooms are large, en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers.
The dining and bar area is elevated so as to take in this vista and each morning's sunrise; dinner takes place either here or in the cosy boma where guests can also enjoy elements of local Zambian culture. Many meals are prepared and cooked on the fire in front of guests giving you an authentic safari experience, and that feeling of being away from it all...
A maximum of 12 guests can be accommodated at any one time and great emphasis has been placed on the "guided" experience - being led by qualified, enthusiastic people with in-depth knowledge of the area and its wildlife.
The Kafue National Park is home to thousands of red lechwe, ubiquitous puku, stately roan and sable antelope, as well as the diminutive oribi and blue duiker. Defassa waterbuck, herds of Lichtenstein's hartebeest, zebra and buffalo make for a full set of antelope. This wealth of game on the plains is also a big attraction for predators, with cheetah, leopard and African wildcat often seen, wild dog, pangolin, and caracal spotted occasionally, and prides of lion up to 20 strong. One can go in search of the wildlife on 4x4 game drives, day and night.
Hop aboard a motorboat and explore some of the waters in search of game, try your hand at fishing, pull on some good shoes and go on a bush walk in the company of a knowledgeable guide... There are plenty of exciting things to do during your safari here that will let you experience the African wilderness up close.
