Lion Sands Treehouses

Sleep under the stars

A luxurious extra that is sure to kick your ultimate safari experience up a notch is a night out in one of Lion Sands treehouses. They're a far cry from that childhood construction you might have played hideaway in... with a million stars lighting up the African sky above you, wildlife all around, all the comforts that you can experience at a five-star safari lodge, drinks and a picnic dinner to complete the perfect stay. Treehouse stays are charged as an activity over and above the daily rate for accommodation at Lion Sands... but it's oh so worth it.

Chalkey Tree House, Lion Sands Sabi Sand

This unique tree-house was built at the original site where Guy Aubrey Chalkley climbed into the trees and set up camp to escape from predators roaming the plains below. Today, guests are taken to the treehouse at sunset (drinks and picnic included) to enjoy the African dusk as it transforms from day to night. As dawn breaks, guests are collected by their ranger for a morning game drive, followed by a delicious bush breakfast at one of the animal and bird hides. The privacy and seclusion of Chalkley Treehouse allows guests to be completely alone in the wilderness - a rare experience that few places in the world can offer. Built around a 500 year-old Leadwood Tree, the treehouse boasts secure access and beautiful views over the plains, along with an extraordinary bush bedroom that can accommodate a single/sharing guest/s for the night, complete with mosquito net, mattress, linen, bedside table, toilet and bush vanity table.

Kingston Treehouse, Lion Sands Sabi Sand

Pass through rows of magnificent white boulders, cross a small drawbridge, and you'll find yourself surrounded by the African wild and its animal life. Kingston Treehouse is made entirely from wood and glass, with contemporary décor in hues of greys, white, black and purple. No matter the weather, you'll have a safe, luxurious setting here. Situated about 5 minutes from the main lodge, this 60m2 Treehouse is equipped with full bathroom and shower facilities. Before a dinner (tapas or the Full Monty) and champagne, you can even enjoy a massage under the stars. A yoga mat is provided and radio contact with the rangers can be arranged.

Tinyeleti Treehouse, Lion Sands Kruger

Tinyeleti, which translates to "Many Stars", is the ultimate open-air invitation to observe the splendor of the Sabie River as the animals come to drink. The treehouse is fully equipped with all the comforts of a luxury stay. You can even enjoy a relaxing head massage while up in the trees, and a choice of tapas or a full meal, cocktails included. The 50m2 deck can accommodate 4 people. Children are welcome. Expect to hear the constant rush of life from the Sabie River on your doorstep, with night predators and birds chiming in.
