City, sea and wildlife spectacular

Overview

If you act fast, you can explore the diversity and awe-inspiring landscapes of Africa at a fraction of the price on this 13-day special. Start off in the bush on a Big 5 safari, drop in to the City of Gold, and end your holiday on the island of Mauritius. From rugged bushveld and an abundance of wildlife to the twinkling turquoise waters of a tropical island, this special truly showcases every facet of Southern Africa’s best attractions.

Day 1-5: Makanyi Private Game Lodge, Hoedspruit

Located in the Timbavati Game Reserve (known as ‘the place where something sacred came down to earth), Makanyi Private Game Lodge opened its doors in 2015, and has sailed to the top of most safari-lovers’ bucket lists ever since. Here, white lions roam the land, alongside the Big 5 and a wealth of other wildlife.

Explore the reserve by bush walks, game drives, and star-gazing tours before retreating to your luxury suite overlooking the dam. Each suite features an extra-large bed as well as Nespresso machine, Wi-Fi access, a sitting area around a fireplace, spacious en-suite bathroom, and private deck with loungers and an outdoor shower.

From the guttural moans of the lions to the evening grunts of hungry hippos, life moves on in its own pleasant rhythms, watched in wonder by Makanyi guests. Two ways to capture these moments include a photographic safari with a pro and private vehicle or an art safari with renowned painter Warren Cary.

Accommodation is in a Luxury Suite or similar and fully-inclusive with local beverages

Day 5-7: Fairlawns Boutique Hotel and Spa, Johannesburg

A portion of what was once a 10-acre estate complete with horses, stables, and rolling lawns, The Fairlawns retains the park-like grandeur of a stately country abode. Found in Sandton’s high-end Morningside Manor suburb, this refined 5-star establishment strikes a pleasing balance between secluded tranquillity and proximity to Johannesburg’s high-octane business centres.

Johannesburg’s most fashionable districts are close at hand while The Fairlawns’ complimentary shuttle service in the Sandton area makes things that much more convenient. When not browsing shops and galleries or trying out some of the fine restaurants you may want to venture further afield to the city’s many sights and experiences. That being said, on the hotel grounds, there is a fully-equipped gym, Balinese Spa, and a la carte restaurant to enjoy.

This all-suite boutique experience features Deluxe Grand Chateaux, Superior Courtyard, and Superior Villa categories as well as a European villa style Presidential Suite and stand-alone Villa Residence with maximum exclusivity and privacy. Suffice it to say that all options are sumptuously decorated—here everyone is royalty. Now for the cherry on top: a candlelit dinner on the terrace.

Accommodation is in a Grand Chateau Suite or similar on a bed & breakfast basis

Day 7-13: The Oberoi, Mauritius

The Oberoi makes its home on a private 600m stretch of white beach, which is itself part of a protected marine park. At a mere 15 kilometre distance from the capital city of Port Louis, reaching this coastal paradise is a breeze. Speaking of which: lovers of watersports give this coast consistently high praise for its offshore winds that are ideal for windsurfing and sailing.

If you prefer a more relaxing experience as opposed to water-based fun and games, the in-house spa offers a wide variety of Ayurvedic, Thai, Balinese, and Western treatments - as well as a few of its own invention. Surrounded by a lush green garden, this quiet retreat is the ideal environment in which to practice yoga or tai chi. For some land-based exercise, a well-equipped fitness centre and a number of tennis courts are available.

Accommodation is made up of a selection of Pavilions and Villas, each crowned with a traditional thatched roof. Oak and cane furniture gives the interior a natural feel, while the walled garden provides a sense of privacy and a great sunbathing spot.

Accommodation is in a Luxury Pavilion or similar on a bed & breakfast basis
