Situated on the western shore of Lake St Lucia and adjoining False Bay Game Reserve and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, lies Hluhluwe River Lodge. The lodge commands a spectacular view of the Hluhluwe River floodplain and False Bay. It offers the most comprehensive experience of South Africa's first natural World Heritage site including the famous Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park a mere thirty minutes from the lodge.
At Hluhluwe River Lodge twelve luxury thatched chalets are dotted around a magnificent indigenous garden each with its own viewing deck. There are eight standard chalets, sleeping two with, en-suite shower and bathroom facilities, and two family chalets each sleep four with, en-suite shower, and bathroom facilities. There are two Honeymoon chalets that sleep two with en-suite shower and bathrooms with a gorgeous Victorian style bath.
All chalets have modern air conditioners, mosquito nets and electronic safe. There is a central main lodge with a lounge and wifi. You will also find the dining area where delicious meals are served and the pub with its great wine list. Here you can catch the stunning view while enjoying an open-air log fire.
They are also very proud of their local history museum right at the lodge. From the main lodge, a network of lit paths, lead to each of the rooms, and there is a secluded swimming pool in the garden. Mkhulu’s House is ideal for a family of four or two adult couples. It is equipped for a self-catering holiday, however,meals may be booked at the lodge restaurant provided the lodge is occupied by guests.
You will find many things to do when you stay at Hluhluwe River Lodge. Hiking, Birding, Evening Spider walks, Pineapple tours, Self-drive to the various game reserves and beaches. There are also Mountain bike trails in the forests and along the pristine shores of Lake St Lucia.
Hluhluwe River Lodge is 15 minutes from the N2 freeway and accessed by a tar road that leads to False Bay. From this road there is a 6 kilometre gravel road to the entrance to the lodge. This road is passable in normal saloon cars. Comprehensive directions and a map are given to all guests prior to departure. Guests wishing to fly in will be met at the airfield in Hluhluwe village.
