Zulu Camp is situated in the Shambala Private Game Reserve, a 10,000 hectare reserve in the malaria-free Waterberg mountains of the Limpopo Province. In this idyllic setting, a mere 2½ hours’ drive north of Johannesburg, Shambala Private Game Reserve is home to a diversity of wildlife including the Big 5. The main lodge area with plunge pool, lounge with fireplace and viewing deck over the river act as a wonderful base from which to explore the reserve.
Zulu Camp has eight luxury chalets. Guests stay in traditional honeycomb-shaped chalets in the heart of the bushveld with streams from the nearby river running through the camp. The luxurious bathroom with bath and shower leads out to a refreshing outdoor shower on the private deck overlooking the surrounding bushveld. Each chalet is decorated in elegant Afro-French Provincial style, with a double bed dressed in the finest linens, French armoire and full length mirror. Your personal butler is on hand to turn down your room in the evening and to assist you at all times.
Shambala is actively involved in wildlife conservation and a comprehensive anti-rhino poaching programme. In addition to the Big 5, Shambala Private Game Reserve is home to the endangered sable antelope, black impala, tsessebe, and black rhino, as well as buffalo. The Shambala Spa offers a unique, intimate wellness retreat in a secluded bush clearing along the riverside. There are individualised spa treatments for relaxing, revitalising and rejuvenating the senses. There are more activities such as guided bush walks, game drives, star-gazing and the always-popular sundowner cruises.
