Makumu Game Lodge

Perfect for a family getaway

The decor at Makumu Game Lodge is sleek and individualistic while remaining true to the lodge’s heritage, with each suite drawing inspiration from a South African tribe. Regardless of whether your room draws from  the colourful, geometric patterns of the Ndebele people, the clean, simplistic lines of the Bushmen or the earthy tones of the Zulus - there will be in no doubt that the lodge is authentically South African.
At the heart of it, safaris are about the wildlife. When you're lucky enough to go to the lowveld, we recommend that you spend as much time in the great outdoors as possible. Makumu offers the opportunity to do so. There’s no better example of this than the epicenter of the lodge: a circular wooden deck situated high above the Dundee River bed. From the height of the boma, you'll be able to enjoy a dinner while looking at kilometers and kilometers of open bushveld. Makumu’s slogan sums it up: home of the endless view.
Other attractions that emphasise the lodge's surroundings are the treehouse which overlooks the waterhole and the outdoor showers that position guests directly under the African sky. For the truly adventurous, the lodge offers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to camp in the wild, but even if you're not interested in sleeping out, there's always the possibility of spotting at least one of the Big 5 in the camp because elephants have been known to visit the pool during the midday heat.
