Ocean House

Book the exclusive use of the Ocean House

The clean lines and open-plan design of the Ocean House draws inspiration from the 36 000 Ha reserve that it's found within: the De Hoop Nature Reserve. The Ocean House is nothing short of spectacular, by achieving the difficult feat of inserting polished sophistication into an unspoiled reserve without upsetting the natural harmony of the area is something to be proud of. Ocean house is a new member of the Morukuru family mimics the architectural brilliance and warmth of the rest of the portfolio, instantly setting its guests at ease. Ocean House also forms part of the Relais & Châteaux group ensuring nothing but the best from this awe-inspiring property.

Catering for 8 adults and 4 children, the Ocean House has 4 en suite bedrooms with glass doors that optimise the incredible view plus one bedroom that's specifically designed with youngsters in mind. A private kitchen with a trained chef, a personal butler and a fireplace only hint at the level of luxury that guests can look forward to. The Ocean House is available on an exclusive use basis, affording guests the freedom to do what they want, when they want.

Ocean House exudes a certain modesty about it, as it draws its beauty away from itself and places the incredible reserve as its focal point. All 51km of De Hoop's picturesque white breaches form part of a marine protected area which extends 5 kilometres out to sea, creating one of the largest marine sanctuaries in Africa. It is also known to be one of the best places to witness whales, these majestic mammals come to the area to breed and nurse their young between July and November. The dunes create a natural amphitheatre and are the best vantage points to spot the whales going along their business. Sharing the waters with the whales are the dolphins and seals that are regularly spotted off the coastline.

Aquatic animals are not the only wildlife on offer - the reserve boasts 86 mammals including eland, caracal, cape mountain zebra and the occasional leopard. The landscape is defined by limestone cliffs, natural rock pools, rolling sand dunes and untouched white beaches and can be explored on foot, mountain bikes or quad bikes. The De Hoop Vlei, a Ramsar wetland of international importance, deserves special attention as it's home to a variety of endangered bird life including the Cape oyster-catcher that breeds within the safety of the reserve. The illusive Cape clawless otter is another resident that is often spotted in this section of the reserve.
