Ask Samantha for her favourite tour and you will get two: the self-drive expedition along the Garden Route is a personal favourite being close to home; and the ultimate safari adventure on the other hand is the big one that every visitor to southern Africa should experience combining the trio of Cape Town, Kruger National Park and Victoria Falls with sensational destinations in between.
Samantha’s Ultimate Safari Adventure is a 20-day tour with all accommodation, road transfers, flights and selected activities included.
Here’s what Samantha has to say about it:
This is the ultimate safari adventure and it is my absolute dream for all first-time visitors to Africa to be able to experience this tour. I have been to these destinations many times and have had the privilege of visiting every property on this trip and they all hold very soft spots in my heart.
You will enjoy Cape Town and all our Mother City has to offer - from wine to oceans, to whales and penguins and let’s not forget those uninterrupted views of Table Mountain from the lap of luxury at Cape Grace in the famed V&A Waterfront.
Moving inland to the Kalahari to experience starry skies like never before, meerkats popping up from their burrows to face the early morning sun, horse riding and of course big game safaris at Tswalu where you feel like the only person in the world.
Then it’s off to our City of Gold, Johannesburg for fabulous shopping, a cosmopolitan buzz and an insight of the turbulent past, the peaceful present and the exciting future of South Africa with a tour of the vibrant Soweto Township and the conciliatory Apartheid Museum.
Now it’s the highlight of the trip for me: a four-night night stay at the incredible Londolozi Private Game Reserve. This private game reserve is famed for the best leopard sightings in Africa, has the most passionate staff, glorious accommodations and as a bonus the potential to see all of the Big 5 and more. This is not-negotiable. If you have to visit one place in Africa it must be Londolozi.
Your next stop is Victoria Falls, World Heritage Site and Natural Wonder of the World. Best enjoyed from the Zimbabwean side of the Falls at the “grande olde dame” of the destination, the Victoria Falls Hotel, where after touring the Falls themselves and viewing them from an eagle’s vantage point during a helicopter flip, you can relax on the verandah enjoying the thunderous spray in the distance. Aaaah! Sublime.
From Victoria Falls you board the absolutely lavish Zambezi Queen for three nights of luxury gliding up the Chobe River. You have the opportunity to enjoy game drives in the Chobe National Park, go fishing or just enjoy the herds of Elephant and Buffalo that surround the boat on the open plains and perhaps catch a glimpse of a mother elephant assisting her young across the river while both use their trunks as snorkels.
This tour ends with a flight back to Jo’burg but if you’ve got the time, I highly recommend adding the Okavango Delta to complete this truly epic holiday. And it’s thanks to Rhino Africa that I have been able to experience all this first hand. It’s a job. Someone has to do it.
