Gareth’s Elegant African Holiday

Travel in style to Africa's most beautiful places

Gareth is the cultured sort. He likes good wine and understated luxury so his dream holiday would be an elegant tour of southern Africa visiting the most beautiful places imaginable, staying at elegant hotels and lodges along the way:

“What could be better than combining a little of wild Africa with a little bit of sea, sun and a glass of wine or two.

Imagine a few weeks away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, no clock-watching and no stress. This is my idea of the perfect getaway. A way to totally relax and spend some time with family, a friend or a loved one.

This is my ultimate getaway package including Cape Town, the Whale Route & the Overberg, the Cape Winelands, Kruger National Park and the Bazaruto Archipelago of Mozambique.

Picture this itinerary and try not to get excited, well at least try! All you have to do is book your flights to South Africa, pack your bags and let us take care of the rest. Bon Voyage!!”

Day 1 - 4: The Cape Grace, Cape Town

Arrive at Cape Town international and collect your hired car for the 20-minute drive to the Cape Grace in the V&A Waterfront - your Cape Town base for the next four days.

Spend the next few days exploring Cape Town at your leisure. Highlights include Table Mountain, Robben Island, V&A Waterfront, Constantia Winelands, Cape Point, Camps Bay and hundreds of cafes and restaurants.

Meals: breakfast.

Day 4 - 6: Birkenhead House, Hermanus

Drive about an hour and a half along the coast towards Hermanus and the Whale Route - you can either drive the direct route over the mountain pass or meander along the ocean road. Spend two nights at the regal Birkenhead House exploring the coastal whale path, wine farms, boat trips and restaurants along the seafront.

Meals: full board including local drinks

Day 6 - 8: Le Quartier Francais, Franschhoek

Head north into wine country for about an hour until you get to the beautiful valley of Franschhoek and its town, which is a tribute to all things French.

Le Quartier Francais is the charming boutique guesthouse extension of the world-famous restaurant. Advance bookings are essential, which is understandable considering Margo Janse’s restaurant is rated among top eateries in the world.

Keep the gastronomic flag flying with visits to numerous award-winning wine farms in the area before heading back to Cape Town and the next phase of your graceful journey.

Meals: breakfast

Day 8 - 10: Camp Jabulani, Kruger National Park

The drive from Franschhoek to Cape Town Airport is about an hour. Drop off your hired car and fly from Cape Town to Kruger via Johannesburg and transfer by road (about an hour) to your first safari destination: Camp Jabulani just outside the Kruger National Park and forming part of the Greater Kruger Area.

Camp Jabulani is in the Kapama Private Game Reserve and is famous for its elephant-back safaris in addition to full-featured Big 5 wildlife safaris, walking safaris and nocturnal game viewing.

Meals: full board including local drinks and activities

Day 10 - 13: Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, Kruger National Park

Transfer back to the airport and board a 30-minute light aircraft flight to Lion Sands in the Kruger Park. Like a Russian Doll, Lion Sands is a private concession inside the Private Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which is inside the Greater Kruger Park area. In short: you are surrounded by a huge chunk of uninhabited African wilderness.

The game viewing in the Sabi Sand is legendary with almost guaranteed sightings of leopard along with regular encounters with lion and elephant. And it goes without saying that the accommodation is elegant, luxurious and exclusive.

Spend three nights on safari in Lion Sands before your final phase: five nights on a tropical island paradise.

Meals: full board including local drinks

Day 13 - 18: Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa, Bazaruto Archipelago

Transfer through the reserve to Kruger International and board a flight for Vilanculos in Mozambique followed by another short flight to Bazaruto Island and the exclusive Indigo Bay Resort and Spa.

With five nights here, it’s time for serious relaxing. Not that you’ve been overly taxed these past few days but here, on an idyllic tropical island, there are no phones, no cars, no shoes even if that’s your preference.

Enjoy some first class scuba diving, snorkelling, kayak and boat trips, dhow cruises, fishing and as much seafood and lazy living as you can imagine.

Includes: Accommodation, breakfast, lunch, dinner, 15 minute Mystery Spa Treatment, scheduled daily snorkelling trip to Neptunes Nursery (weather permitting), soft drinks, bottled water, house wine, local beer and house spirits, tea/coffee, mini-bar, non-motorized activities/equipment and Emergency medical evacuation.

Day 18: Departure

Fly to Vilanculos Airport and onwards to Johannesburg International from where you can connect to your homeward flight with ease.
