Close to La Digues most famous beach; Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue Island Lodge is the largest and most well known hotel on the island. With 60 rooms of various types it has the widest choice of accommodation and there should be an option to suit your specific needs. Situated in peaceful tropical gardens with coconut palsm a plenty, takamaka trees and a variety oF flowering plants, the atmosphere is calm, cool and relaxing.
Built with local timber the palm leave roofed wooden chalets are spacious and sparsely furnished. Most are just a few short steps from the beach and if further away you will come to enjoy the shady walk. There are rooms well suited to families and those looking for a more romantic option can choose one of the more luxurious suites. The only thing we have to complain about is that when staying at La Digue Island Lodge a minibus taxi comes to collect your when the ferry drops you off, which for us spoils the laid back bicycle and oxcart vibe that all the brochures talk about. Our advice, find your own way to the hotel whether on a bicycle or by oxcart.
Choose from either the main restaurant or the one near the pool, at both you can experience Creole cooking at it's best. With it's high pointed thatch roof and sandy floor the mian restaurant certainly suits the laid back island vibe and the view is of Praslin island.
When not lying on the superb beach catching some rays, hike to the highest peak and enjoy a spectacular view of the island or you can hire a bicycle and explore the island's coastline. If you'd prefer to explore the underwater world, pay a visit to the dive centre which offers scuba-diving, including a course for absolute beginners, and also has snorkelling equipment.
