Daisy’s tour is a wildlife-rich romp through some of South Africa’s most beautiful reserves. You will spend your safari in two different malaria-free areas at Marataba in the Welgevonden/Waterberg area and in Madikwe. Game viewing is fantastic, the lodges are family friendly but still intimate and to top it off, no malaria.
“Marataba offers a Big 5 safari experience with a wide host of activities to choose from, including game drives and bush walks, swimming and fishing. They also offer photographic safaris where guests can have the opportunity to learn more about taking a perfect shot from a professional wildlife photographer,” Daisy explains. "The lodge has 15 tented and stone suites, which are gorgeous. Each has its own private deck overlooking the Waterberg Mountains and a river below. The bedrooms are spacious and there is a lavish free-standing stone bath in the room with indoor and outdoor showers."
The 75 000-hectare Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North West Province, 4 ½ hours from Johannesburg or approximately 2 hours from Marataba. The reserve lies within a transition region between Lowveld bushveld and the Kalahari thornveld. As a result the region is host to an incredible diversity of species from both ecosystems. It is wonderful for Big 5 game viewing as well as a few endangered species such as wild dog and black rhino.
Daisy tells us, “The lodges in Madikwe are allowed the same freedom as the lodges in Sabi Sand, each lodge has a concession of land where only their vehicles may traverse. This ensures you enjoy an exclusive game drive, while the animals are able to move freely through the entire reserve which is conducive to more activity and therefore better game viewing.
"Jamala Madikwe is phenomenal and one of my favourite lodges of all time. They have all the elements of a perfect safari lodge: small, luxurious & personal. There are only five freestanding villa suites which are massive and have the expansive views over a watering hole and open stretch of bush which receives lots of animal traffic throughout the day. The suites have a lounge area, deck and private plunge pools and large glass windows allowing you to watch animals from the comfort of your bed."
