The Bagatelle: trifling when compared with the scale of the great Kalahari; immense when you consider its luxury and tranquil charm. The Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch manages to mix luxurious and homely in a single statement, its owners Fred and Onie made the transition from game farmers to hoteliers along with their beloved farm house.
Now Bagatelle lodge consists of ten luxury chalets of two styles: four cabins raised on stilts on top of the dunes and six eco-huts with straw walls 60cm deep. All are air conditioned and have en suite bathrooms, the cabins having the advantage of a bath in addition to the standard shower.
The living area is open and inviting with a lounge and reading room, a walk-in wine cellar and convivial bar. A stunning pool and an intimate boma are key highlights on any stay at Bagatelle. The dining area, where fantiastic food is served, opens onto the grand vista and the whole lodge looks out over a waterhole and the grass-covered, acacia-studded, wildlife-speckled Kalahari dunes that lie beyond.
Wildlife and nature activities
The Bagatelle has kept its game farm roots and has a menagerie of habituated wildlife included four cheetahs protected in conjunction with Cheetah Conservation Fund; the Kalahari supports a variety of hardy species of wildlife including giraffe, gemsbok, springbok and ostrich.
