Palmwag Lodge

Palmwag Lodge: A desert oasis in Damaraland

In the rugged and inhospitable Damaraland, water sources are scarce. For this reason, the seasonal Uniab River and its underground springs are of grave importance to the numerous wildlife species found in the area—most notably the desert-adapted rhino and elephant. Resting on the banks of this river is Palmwag Lodge, a terrific choice for visitors exploring the Kunene region and stopping over between Etosha and the Skeleton Coast National Park.

Aside from the uniquely adapted elephant and rhino found in this region, travellers can also keep an eye out for giraffe, zebra, and gemsbok that are often preyed on by the resident predator population including lion, cheetah, leopard, and brown and spotted hyena. Bird life is prolific too with over 100 species having been recorded.

Guests can choose from the lodge’s Twin and Single Rooms, their Family Units, and their campsite with all having access to the pool and bar area. Morning or afternoon game drives can be enjoyed along with guided walks, while full-day guided excursions, overnight safaris, and rhino tracking adventures need to be booked in advance.

  • A selection of room accommodation on offer along with a campsite
  • Onsite pool, bar, and lapa where light meals and drinks are served
  • An airstrip is conveniently located nearby, while the lodge is an excellent stopover point between Etosha and the Skeleton Coast
  • Activities include daily guided walks and game drives, with added extras ranging from guided full-day excursions, rhino tracking, and overnight safaris
