The Oberoi

Dabble in water sports to your heart's desire

The Oberoi was built in such a way as to blend seamlessly into its environment, making use of all natural materials like stone, wood and thatch. The private 600m-long beach stretches along three individual curves of white sand and the entire area is enclosed within a protected marine park.

The Banyan Tree Spa provides luxurious pampering in exceptional private rooms and there's a wide range of treatments to choose from. The stunning dining room offers panoramic views across the Indian Ocean, accompanied by an exceptional menu of local and international gourmet cuisine and fine wines. The main fare is a pleasing mix of European, Oriental and Creole cuisine using local fruit, vegetables and delicate spices.

Accommodation is in individual, thatched luxury pavilions, each with private dining gazebo, exclusive swimming pool and spectacular sea views. All have air-conditioning, satellite TV, DVD player, tea/coffee maker, fully stocked mini-bar, safe, sunken marble baths and hairdryer. Each pavilion is fully furnished in rich neutral shades and features a king-size 4-poster bed. The resort has a range of motorised and non-motorised water sports including water-skiing, sailing, pedal and glass-bottom boats, and snorkelling.

The prevailing winds being offshore on the North Coast means the sea conditions are perfect for water sports. Spending your days out on the water is the thing to do in the North. Whether you choose to take a catamaran trip out to one of the outlying islets for a beach barbecue or stay closer inshore and enjoy watersking, parasailing, windsurfing and a whole host of other activities. With clear waters, conditions are perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving and further out to sea you can land a monster fish on a deep sea fishing expedition. The North also has at least two inland places of interest, which are "La Nicoliere" drive and the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, where you can see the famous waterlily pond. Grand Baie is well known for its selection of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
