Nkwichi Lodge is technically part of Mozambique, but it is nestled on the eastern shores of Lake Malawi. It is located in the remote Niassa province of Mozambique, miles from roads, shops and so-called civilisation. It really would be hard to find a more remote and exclusive setting for your beach holiday. The lodge is raised on a rocky outcrop with stunning views over the lake, with an al fresco dining area on the deck. The lodge is involved in the Manda Wilderness Project, which seeks to protect the indigenous fauna and flora in the region. Around the lodge, one can spot zebra, kudu and warthog while lion, leopard, hippo, antelope, elephant and even wild dog are found in the surrounding game reserve.
Accommodation comes in the form of 6 chalets, 5 doubles and one larger family unit, each nestled under trees and providing the utmost in privacy. Each chalet has a private verandah, ideal for relaxing during the day, with an outside bathtub below the tree canopy. Wooden, king-size beds and overflowing mosquito nets are complimented by fresh flowers and there is a honeymoon suite to satisfy even the most romantic of couples.
Nkwichi Lodge is certainly off the beaten track, and ideal for travellers who seek out the road less travelled. Its setting is spectacular, with no roads, no noise and no hustle and bustle in sight. The beach is all yours, as are the crystal clear waters where you can enjoy canoeing, snorkelling, sailing and bird watching - or spot hundreds of colourful fish. Explore the Manda Nature Reserve and do your bit for the wilderness and community project, before returning to your luxury chalet without a soul in sight, and pristine beauty all around you and your loved one.
