Cape Maclear is without a doubt one of our favourite destinations in Malawi, with beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters and extremely friendly locals. And your best bet for accommodation is Danforth Lodge, hidden away at the far end of this charming fishing village. It opens out onto a beautiful sandy beach, with a swimming pool that seems to stretch into the translucent lake. There is a PADI scubadiving centre so you can mingle with the hundreds of cichlid fish species that brighten up the crystal clear waters. Waterskiing, wakeboarding, snorkelling, fishing and sailing are all on offer, as are hiking, mountain biking and cultural tours for the landlubbers.
Accommodation consists of eight lake facing, air-conditioned, en suite bedrooms. All rooms have a cool blue and white nautical theme. We have family rooms as well as twins and doubles with private patios that provide spectacular views of the lake and the stunning sunsets that create a kaleidoscope of colour every evening. The lodge is ideal for families with special activities for children. The food is sumptuous, a melange of local and international flavours, enjoyed in the dining area or al fresco under the skies. And once you have settled in, you really will find it difficult to leave your home away from home in Cape Maclear.
Moored in the waters, just 50 metres from the guesthouse is Mufasa, the luxury catamaran that is for exclusive use of Danforth guests. This 38ft yacht is ideal for anything from sunset cruises to a few days spent exploring the magical Lake Malawi. Head into the protected Lake Malawi National Park, visit the nearby islands and stay overnight a la Robinson Crusoe! Mufasa offers a skipper, deck hand and chef to look after your every need. The yacht has scuba-diving and snorkelling equipment, and these can be enjoyed in some secluded and spectacular locations. A luxury cruise beckons - so what are you waiting for?
