Between the sparkling coastline and the rich, verdant forest Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge is like stepping onto an island paradise. Manafiafy is a quaint coastal town settled in the south of Madagascar, on a sheltered, forest fringed bay. South Madagascar is known for its unique scenery and flora. The area is dotted with strange baobab vegetation and it is the only place on earth where travellers can admire the spiny forest, a semi-desert ecosystem formed by huge cactus-like plants which only grow here.
Manafiafy understands the importance of eco-tourism and thus, the lodge is built from natural materials of wood, stone and ravinala thatch, giving it a romantically rustic feel . The lodge consists of 4 luxury bungalows and two villas, perfect for any family. Each comes with a private wood-decked terrace which offers phenomenal views of the bay. There are huge windows at the front of each bungalow and stepping out through the door you come to the large terrace with sun beds, outdoor shower and a hammock.Secluded and intimate, guests will love the 'Robinson Crusoe' feel of the lodge. From dining to lounging, the atmosphere at Manafiafy is relaxed and tranquil. Lunch is often a barbeque with seafood, salads and freshly baked bread. Dinner is a la carte dining with a great selection of seafood including mussels, oysters, crab, lobster and fresh fish.
The lodge offers a host of activities for both adults and children. The bay is sheltered and provides for safe swimming and snorkelling. Day and night walks in the rainforest surrounding the lodge provide excellent lemur and birding opportunities. Whale watching can be enjoyed in season and kayaking, canoeing and boat trips to nearby islands for picnic lunches are a must.
