Jardin du Roy is an elegant guesthouse near the 80,000ha Parc National d’Isalo in the southern region of Madagascar. It is owned by the same group as Relais de La Reine meaning guests have access to the facilities (e.g. tennis court, massage room) at this nearby hotel. But the 20 rooms at Le Jardin are more spacious and well-appointed, each with a private patio that is ideal for savouring the views and getting some peace and quiet amidst the fresh plains air.
Each room is either a twin, double or triple and has an en-suite bathroom. The rooms are located in four different villas which are spread out in the lush landscaped gardens. All the buildings are made of local stone, reflecting the rocky surrounds of the national park and there is a sparkling swimming pool where you can escape the heat of the day. The bar is sure to welcome you with open arms and an ice-cold drink while the dining room is centred around a fireplace and the meals are a sumptuous blend of local and international cuisine.
Most tourists stay at Jardin du Roy for one reason - to visit one of Madagascar's best national parks. Parc National d’Isalo comprises 80,000ha of untamed wilderness where rivers run through lush valleys, and waterfalls cascade down stark rock faces. Colourful baobabs, verdant green succulents and swinging vines house a collection of lemurs, a kaleidoscope of chameleons and a smattering of birdlife. Often referred to as Jurassic Park, Isalo is dominated by a Jurassic rock massif that creates a weird and wonderful landscape and you can bathe in its natural swimming pools! And Jardin du Roy provides a wonderful and reasonably priced base from which to experience the wonders of Isalo.
