Northern Madagascar: a must see

Northern Madagascar is an outdoor treasure trove of diverse habitats, creatures, and experiences. Outdoorsmen will be confronted with endless hiking trails and beaches perfect for kayaking, while nature lovers will be enthralled at the plethora of wildlife including rare and endangered lemurs as well as the smallest chameleons in the world. Photographers won’t be able to get enough of a 150-year-old limestone massif and discerning travellers will enjoy the laidback lifestyle and hospitality found in the north.

Ambilobe is an important transit point for visitors travelling around north, northeast, and northwest Madagascar. Buses to all kinds of points of interests can be caught from this town situated on one of Madagascar’s national roads. The Masoala peninsula is home to the largest protected area in the country, the Masoala National Park. The critically-endangered red ruffed lemur and the Brookesia chameleon are found here.

Ankarana Nature Reserve’s alien landscape consists of a 150 million-year-old limestone massif that hides caves and underground rivers, populated with unusual animals such as the cave-dwelling crocodile. The Montagne d’Ambre National Park (Amber Mountains National Park) is one of the most biologically diverse. It is also easily accessible thanks to its proximity to Antsiranana.
