Madagascar Destinations

Island escape with a difference!

Madagascar is a land of contrasts, of breathtaking beauty and surreal splendor, of seaside resorts and forest lodges, of leaping lemurs and carnivorous plants, of French influence and sacred Malagasy traditions. It really is a destination that defies logic and herein lies its charm. But it is becoming increasingly popular and we recommend you get here before the rest of the world arrives!

The North is home to the Nosy Be archipelago, the most visited region of the country. It's a collection of postcard beaches, turquoise waters, and idyllic islands scattered off the coast.

In the East is the beautiful Ile Sainte Marie, an oasis of tranquility, and inland is the famous Matadia National Park as well as Andisabe and Lemur Island - these are the best places to see the lemurs - over 100 species of them! And look out for the amazing chameleons too. It is also worth exploring the Pangalese Canal network, which is over 600km long and meanders between all the lakes in the region.

Antananarivo, the capital city, is a chaotic and crazy place, reflecting the magic and mystery of Madagascar and its Malagasy inhabitants. It may not be the most beautiful city but it has an enduring charm with its hawkers, bustling markets and multicoloured houses cascading down the hillside. It is just 12km from the international airport and thus an important hub for most travel in Madagascar.

Heading South, the adventure continues as weird and wonderful landscapes mesmerise travellers. The Parc National de l’Isalo is a wildlife dream with its ringtail, brown and sifaka lemurs and indigenous plants, as well as its Jurassic rock massif jutting into the sky. On the coast, Tuléar is a picturesque port well worth a visit and there are some splendid beach resorts in the surrounding area too.
