Campi Ya Kanzi

Exceptional eco-safari Maasai camp in Tsavo

Campi Ya Kanzi is a luxury safari lodge in the Tsavo Plains of southern Kenya near Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. It connects three national parks, namely Chyulu, Tsavo and Amboseli, and as such provides excellent game viewing among the rolling plains, lush hills and savannah landscapes. It is part of a 280,000 acre Maasai Reserve and the lodge is owned by the Maasai community and a share of the profits go straight back to the tribe. And with all the buildings made of local materials, it is hardly surprising that Campi ya Kanzi has won many eco-tourism and community development awards.

Tembo House forms the centre of camp with its thatched roof and lava rock exterior. Kick back in the lounge and read up about Africa, or enjoy a sun-downer drink on the terrace while game gather at the waterhole. Wine and dine around a large wooden table by candlelight - the camp is managed by two Italians and is thus famous for its authentic Italian cuisine. Guests will stay in one of six thatched roof tented cottages, each with a private verandah providing stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Tsavo Hills or the Chyulu Hills. Facilities include a table, two safari chairs, a colonial trunk, shelves and hangers for your clothes, daily fresh flowers and a well-appointed bathroom. There are also the Hemingway and Simba suites which are more spacious with a double sink and extra room. And for the utmost in privacy there is a private house which has a swimming pool, jacuzzi and private guide.

Campi Ya Kanzi means "Camp of the Hidden Treasure" in Kiswahili. And what a treasure awaits you here! The only lodge on a 280,000 acre Maasai Reserve, and catering for a maximum of 16 guests, it certainly is exclusive. What's more by being here you will be contributing to the Maasai community, with $30 going to the locals for every day each guest stays. Furthermore the camp plays a conservation role in protecting the wildlife and the land and all the buildings are made of local materials. And of course, you will meet the Maasai people and gain an insight into their way of life. And we haven't even mentioned the Safari yet! Enjoy game drives and guided bush walks with Maasai warriors, spotting a vast array of wildlife and bird life in Tsavo, Amboseli and Chyulu National Parks. Visit Maasai villages, go camping in the wilderness, hop a flight over Kilimanjaro and much much more!
