Kruger: a world of contrasting riches

The contrasting landscapes of the expansive Greater Kruger National Park Area flow from the undulating ridges and peaks of the Drakensberg escarpment into the startling landscape of the Panorama Route and its flagship: the iconic Blyde River Canyon. To the east, the game-abundant savannahs and mopane scrublands of the Kruger National Park and its surrounding reserves play host to the Big 5, one of Africa’s most potent symbols.

Mpumalanga’s awe-inspiring vistas are dotted with natural wonders such as God’s Window, the Three Rondavels and the Blyde River Canyon – an area synonymous with outdoor activities and nature-loving pastimes such as rock-climbing, abseiling, fishing, hiking and hot-air ballooning. Charming towns such as Pilgrims Rest remain transfixed in the late-nineteenth century while Hazyview and Hoedspruit stand on the threshold of the Kruger and its surrounding treasures.

Known as the largest park in the country and second-largest on the continent, the Kruger National Park is also home to one of the most densely game-populated and bio-diverse regions in the world. The Big 5 roam the area in large numbers alongside with vast numbers of plains game, reptiles, and a prolific amount of birdlife. Those in search of more uncrowded game-viewing, off-roading, and luxury lodgings will marvel at the private reserves surrounding Kruger.
