Xigera Camp (kee-JE-ra) is a Wilderness Safaris lodge inside the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the Okavango Delta that offers classic safari accommodation and a superb wildlife experience. The ten luxurious tented rooms are built on raised platforms offering an excellent view of the seasonal floodplain and waterhole; en suite bathrooms have outdoor showers and the private viewing deck is an essential component.
The main lodge is also raised to an elephant’s eye-level and, under cool thatch and shady tree canopy, houses the dining area, lounge, pub, boma, viewing deck and plunge pool. Boardwalks connect the rooms and the adjacent island to the lodge and a cunning sandpit records the tracks of nightly camp visitors, which often include leopard, lion and hyena.
Xigera Camp: Okavango's famous wildlife activities
Safari activities include game drives; water safaris on delta boats and traditional mekoro; walking safaris; and birdwatching all at the hands of your professional ranger and guide. Birding in Xigera is excellent. Okavango specials include Pel's fishing owl, African skimmer, slaty egret, wattled crane, lesser jacana and plenty of eagles, vultures, raptors and kingfishers. The rare sitatunga – a shaggy semi-aquatic antelope – loves the Moremi’s swampy protection and your mokoro-guide will pole you silently past these fascinating creatures. Dry months allow for game drives in search of elephant, lion, leopard, hyena and buffalo.
Xigera Camp is one of Wilderness Safaris' Botswana lodges, which we recommend.
