Meno a Kwena

Barefoot charm in the Makgadikgadi

Meno a Kwena Tented Camp is built overlooking the Boteti Riverbed in the Makgadikgadi Pans. The river is one of the few that carry water in times of rain deep into the dry and thirsty Kalahari. It is also the western boundary to the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. In this dry and arid environment the river and especially the two waterholes below the camp are magnets for the wildlife that inhabit the area. There is a telescope and viewing area in the main camp and further down the slope there is a hide complete with chairs, day-bed and bean bags (for the photographers). If you come in the dry season you may find you will never leave camp!

Accommodation is in small meru style safari tents, furniture and utilities are a mix of locally hand built and left overs from past safari days. There are, of course, the luxuries of flush toilets and a natural Boteti rock pool to wallow in on hot summer days. Each of the seven fully serviced safari tents with semi-attached bathrooms, including a bucket shower and flush toilet each, are set on the edge of the riverbank. The camp staff – management, guides and support crew all help to maintain the safari experience with care and dedication to the guests’ every need. The safari camp cuisine is prepared in such a way as to be part of the safari experience. The chef is a veritable whizz at producing stunning meals on the open campfire and in the 'tin-box-oven'.

Activities at Meno a Kwena

Being so close to three different parks and three different eco-systems means that your safari experience at Meno A Kwena will be a varied and exciting one. Take a trip on quad bikes deep into the vastness of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, you could even choose to camp out here for the night. Travel in search of lions and other mammals in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Or if you come in the dry months, when game is most plentiful at the waterholes near the camp, you can simply stay there all day and the myriad of animals will come to you!
