San Camp

Along the shores of the glittering salt pans of the Makgadikgadi – the remnants of an ancient lake once covering most of Botswana – the crisp white tents of San Camp are the only structures in 360 degrees of emptiness. This low-impact solar powered camp invites you to experience pared down elegance and nothing but space.

While it is the sheer nothingness that fascinates there is no lack of things to do and experience. Meet friendly habituated meerkats, walk with the Zu/’hoasi Bushmen, examine the desert on a game drive, speed across the pans on quad bikes discovering remote archaeological sites and fossils, or lie back and examine the bowl of the night sky. This is also one of the only places where you are almost guaranteed to see the rare and elusive brown hyena.

Four Twin and two Double Tents feature en-suite bathrooms, verandahs, feather bedding and hot water bottles. Although there is no electricity, camera charging facilities are provided. The mess tent plates up delicious food and houses a small natural history museum and library while a tea tent and yoga pavilion make up other welcoming spaces.
