Country living at its finest

Blue Gum Country Estate is both a family-run guest house and working farm dating back to 1839 about 2 hours’ drive from Cape Town. Named for the statuesque 140-year-old Blue Gum adorning the front lawn, the guest house provides the warmth and hospitality of a private home.

The picturesque estate lends itself to scenic strolls while some of the 100 recorded bird species flit about. With a mountain trail, tennis court, swimming pool, library complete with board games, boules and DVD selection, and a children’s play area there is something for everyone. A 10min-drive will have you in historical Stanford while Hermanus is also comfortably close. Restaurants, artist’s studios and various activities are prolific in the region.

The main house contains 5 Manor House Suites and 2 Honeymoon Suites which are particularly decadent with double open baths, fire places, double shower and either private garden or verandah. Further accommodation consists of 5 family-friendly Mountain View Cottages which sleep 4, and 2 secluded Blue Gum Cottages. BARKE restaurant offers a family-friendly atmosphere with excellent food all day while The Blue Gum Restaurant offers more exclusive dinners.
