Born in big sky country, otherwise known as the Free State, Ian remembers (very) early mornings in the back of the family car, still half asleep, heading off on adventurous road trips with his folks. Between the two of them, his parents have lived in over seven African countries, so the love for this beautiful continent is in his blood. Studying advertising and design at AAA School of Advertising brought Ian to Cape Town, which would then become his new home and where he’d start his career… until London lured him away with her gorgeous designer bright lights and big-city brands. The 2010 Soccer World Cup brought him back home to the Mother City, which is where he honed his skills and talent in the world of lifestyle art direction and creative design for various well-known local and international brands. Ian’s been very lucky that his work has allowed him to enjoy and be exposed to the finer things in life: great food, far-flung destinations, talented people, beautiful design and a passion for photography. This passion, and his love for animals and his own dog, Eddie, drove him to start his brand SpageddieFace, where he creates a unique range of dog portraits through photography and painting. Fast forward from that car backseat to June this year when Ian decided to spend his 40th birthday with his folks in the Okavango Delta, a tick on each of their bucket lists, and an indication that the exciting journeys will always continue. Joining the Rhino Africa Team is the culmination of a lifetime of adventures, and one that will allow Ian to combine his love of Africa, travel, design and brands, all in one creative place.
