The TrainsThe Rovos Rail company operates two restored classic trains each with 20 renovated original coaches. some from before the 1920s! Each train accommodates a maximum of 72 passengers in fine style and ultimate luxury. The Rovos Rail company also operates one other train, a classic Edwardian 13 coacher, which is available for private charter, year round. All the trains feature traditional authentic furnishings and classic decor with classic wooden panelling a feature throughout. Elegance and grandeur are evident throughout all the coaches and are matched by exceptional service and cuisine.
The Accommodation
The rebuilt coaches contain the most spacious train suites in the world. Restored to a classic finish they offer every modern convenience one could possibly ask for. From the air-conditioned Deluxe Suites, the ultra-luxurious Royal Suites, which each take up half a carriage, to the standard sleeper coaches, all the accommodation is more spacious, luxurious and decadent than any other train in the world.
The Dining
An enthusiastic team of top class chefs produces a standard of cuisine which rivals that of the best restuarants in the world. All the delicious meals are served in the charming Victorian atmosphere of the Dining cars. Passengers aboard the Pride of Africa will love the added authenticity of meals served on fine china, crisp white linen and silver service, and guest are encouraged to dress accordingly. Gin and tonics may be the order of the day, but you can pick your drink from the well stocked bar or have your ever friendly and accommodating waitron keep your order coming!
Rovos Air
Rovos Air has a proud fleet of four classic aircraft, all fitted with business class seats and restored to Rovos standards. The two splendid Convair 440’s have proven conclusively to be one of the most reliable post-war passenger aircraft ever built, sporting spacious, pressurised cabins seating up to 24 passengers in true Rovos style and comfort. The 1944 Douglas DC 3, called ‘Delaney’ after a child who was born on board in October 1975, has been rebuilt with 21 business class seats and a very plush interior. The Douglas DC-4 embodies the safety, range, comfort and space of a true Business class 50-seat prop liner.
