The reserves that combine to form the
Sabi Sand Nature Reserve read like a who's who of South Africa's exclusive lodges. Here you can drop names like
Exeter;
Lion Sands;
Londolozi;
Mala Mala;
Sabi Sabi;
Singita; and
Ulusaba, which happens to belong to one Sir Richard Branson.
The
Garden Route Safari region in the Eastern Cape has world-renowned conservation programmes in private reserves, each with several five-star luxury lodges: Kariega Game Reserve and Shamwari Game Reserve are two excellent reserves that combine well with a Garden Route or Cape Town itinerary.
CC Africa started as a safari operator in the early 1970s. Now they have lodges and private reserves throughout the sub-continent and a name for high standards of everything from the quality of their lodges to the dedication of their ecologists. You will find the CC Africa seal of quality in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Another big name in the conservation-slash-luxury-lodge arena is
Wilderness Safaris. With similar beginnings to CC Africa, this safari operator has developed into one of the leading ecotourism operators in southern Africa. They manage vast communal reserves with exclusive lodges in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia.
