Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge is an eco-friendly lodge overlooking the world-famous Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in south-western Uganda. Like all the Volcanoes Lodges, it has been carefully designed to operate in symbiosis with the local community and environment. Water consumption and waste disposal are reduced and solar power is used instead of generators. The setting is simply stunning on the edge of the forest and its collection of fauna and flora includes gorillas, chimpanzees, birds and an array of plantlife.
The lodge itself was a tented camp but has been upgraded significantly and now comprises eight luxurious bandas with well-appointed bathrooms and all creature comforts. Each banda has its own verandah which offers panoramic views into the forest. The main living area has a dining area and thatched bar with a roaring log fireplace. And you can walk down to the river through the bush and enjoy a relaxing massage. In fact gorillas often wander onto the property so you may even spot one without having to trek through the rainforest!
What could be more of a highlight than stumbling upon the endangered mountain gorilla in its natural habitat? From Bwindi Lodge, you can join a tour into the Impenetrable Forest and track these unbelievable animals - the sight really will take your breath away! And if you're lucky, the gorillas may come to you as they often wander onto the property. Oh, and did we mention that Bwindi is the only place in Africa where chimpanzees and gorillas co-exist - so you get the best of both primates!
