A large 100 room resort, Ocean Paradise Resort is not for those looking for an exclusive and private vacation. But it is for those looking for unabashed luxury and all the mod cons, amenities and facilities one could possibly ask for. The entire complex is thatched with the main reception area's roof seemingly impossibly high! The rooms themselves are in innovatively designed circular bungalows and all are surrounded by lush well maintained gardens brimming with bird-life attracted by the use of only indigenous flora. Wrap around balconies provide ample views and the walk in shower and large bathrooms are a boon for many a traveler. The Decor makes use of local textiles and materials and a subtle East African theme runs throughout, a very nice contrast to other sometimes overdone African themes.
The beach is lovely, with ample sun loungers and many a willing staff member to bring you a cocktail while you enjoy the view. Be warned that the swimming from the beach here is not very good so it's a great thing that the resorts swimming pool is reputed to be the largest and most impressive in all of Zanzibar. Another big plus is that even for a resort of this size the developers have managed to make it very eco-friendly. There is a waste recycling plant as well as energy saving devices in all the rooms.
There are two restaurants, one on the upper level, the Ocean Restaurant where the superb view is matched by sumptuous buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Seafood barbecues are of course the highlight for any culinary affection-ado. For less formal meals the Jahazi Restaurant and the Pool Bar offer seafood and pizza and cocktails for drinking at the poolside, there is also a dinner menu.
