Serengeti Sopa Lodge is an affordable safari lodge in the central Serengeti. The Serengeti has become very expensive in recent years but with this offering you can catch the Great Migration without having to break the bank!
The views are spectacular and the public areas and decks overlook the Serengeti Plains below. The lodge is built into the Nyaboro Hills, but it does take about an hour to drive into the Serengeti itself from the lodge.
Serengeti Sopa Lodge was opened in 1992 and can accommodate a total of 170 guests in 79 suites. The rooms are huge and house two large queen size beds and there is even a small lounge area with mini bar. The rooms are carpeted throughout and have the added bonus of having air-conditioning.
‘Lion Capital of the World’
Unlike other predators in the Serengeti such as hyena and vultures, lions do not migrate at all but rather establish permanent territories where the migration stays longest. The Seronera area is one of these places. During migration they feed on Wildebeest and Zebra, but during the other times they adapt their hunting to feed off buffalo, warthog and impala.
This particular part of the Serengeti really is ‘Lion Capital of the World’ and staying at Serengeti Sopa Lodge you are almost guaranteed to see some fantastic lion activity, regardless of what time of year you visit. From lions on a kill to lions mating to lions relaxing under a tree during the midday sun, this is definitely a highlight and a reason to include this area in your Serengeti Safari.
