With large private suites, excellent game viewing and close proximity to the Elephant Coast and the Midlands, Amakhosi Safari Lodge is an excellent safari destination in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Deep in Zululand, surrounded by 12,000 hectares of rolling hills and African bush, Amakhosi Safari Lodge comprises six suites, a honeymoon suite and a private villa along the Mkuze River. The rooms are enormous Zulu-kraal inspired chalets with a bathroom, lounge, bedroom and a private deck looking out over nothing but the river and the bush.
The main lodge is a terraced mix of relaxing areas including a large open deck beneath a huge tree with a central firepit. The rock-lined pool is around the corner, surrounded by lawn and loungers. Indoors for cooler evenings is a cosy dining area. Everything looks out over the Mkuze River and a passing parade of wildlife.
Game viewing activities at Amakhosi Safari Lodge are exceptional. With brilliant safari guides and being a private reserve, the rules are less strict allowing you off-road traversing in open safari vehicles, bush walks, night drives, birding, frogging (in summer), cultural tours and you can wrap it up with a massage in your suite.
