Self-drive Kruger Park

Easy self-drive tour with a guided safari

Overview

Take a leisurely drive and spend a night in the scenic splendour of Mpumalanga, then head down to the Kruger National Park for a spectacular 3-day safari at one of these incredible lodges. The prices quoted include 5 days car hire.

Day 1: Summerfield's Lodge and Spa, Mpumalanga (1 night)

Collect your hire car from Johannesburg airport and set off on the breathtaking four-hour drive to Mpumalanga. The prices quoted include 4 days car hire. The route is simple and the roads are well sign-posted. The first half of the journey will disappear in a rather uneventful yawn, while the second half takes you through some of South Africa's most spectacular landscapes. You'll spend that night at the fabulous Summerfield's Lodge and Spa .

Day 2 to 4: Singita Boulders Lodge, Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve (3 nights)

A gentle two hours' drive will get you to the Singita Boulders in Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. Aim to arrive at the Lodge by 1pm, in time for a sumptuous lunch, a light doze, a dip in the pool and your first game drive in the afternoon.

The private reserves and concessions have many advantages over the national parks in South Africa - vehicles don't need to be covered, there is no other traffic on the roads, rangers can follow animals off the roads and you can go on bush walks, night drives and sleep-outs under the stars! Dinners in the bush are invigorating. Above all, you and a handful of other guests will have exclusive access to an enormous and pristine game reserve.

Your early morning game drives, bush walks and sunset safaris will be interrupted only by exquisite meals or poolside dozes. Spend the next three days in the blissful routine of eating, sleeping and various wilderness activities.

Meals: Full board including local beverages.

Day 5: Johannesburg

An early morning game drive and one last breakfast will wrap up your African safari. Drive back to Johannesburg airport via some more scenic mountain passes. The trip should take between five and six hours.

Note: Although this is a four-night holiday, you can shorten or lengthen it depending on your time and budget. And what's more, you can add this to an itinerary that goes to Victoria Falls, the Garden Route, Cape Town... you name it. Contact one of our expert consultants to design the perfect safari for you.
