Londolozi Pioneer Camp sets itself apart by exuding a deep spirit while maintaining a style that speaks to refinement. It is quite clear that someone with an appreciation for the finer things in life has taken particular care in collecting and arranging the signature pieces that define Pioneer Camp. The end result is that of Ralph Lauren meeting an Out of Africa adventure.
The design of the camp acknowledges the beauty of the surrounding wilderness with floor to ceiling windows that continuously draw one’s eye towards views of the river. The open-plan kitchen invites visitors to interact with executive chefs who prepare fresh and innovative dishes in plain sight; this is just one example of how Londolozi achieves an inclusionary safari experience which aims to immerse visitors in the culture and people of the private reserve.
The Pioneer Camp is the most secluded of Londolozi’s five camps and, if necessary, it can be converted into a private bush hideaway - for families or small groups - by linking its three luxury suites with the use of glass sky walkways. The comfortable living areas feature antiques and Africana, books about the region as well as wing back sofas and armchairs that demand relaxation. During the midday heat you may be enticed into the contoured lap pool which is reached by steps leading down from the guest areas. At night, the camp is transformed by lanterns and the boma’s open fire sets the ambience for guests to dine beneath the African sky.
Lavish suites include a spacious bedroom and sitting room with candelabra on standby to set the mood for a relaxing bath. Each suite has a private pool and deck area for quiet moments spent with a book while taking in the sounds of the African bushveld. The bathrooms are a nod to classic Victorian elegance with modern accents of marble, chrome and mahogany. Throughout the camp, memorabilia such as photographs, old suitcases, silver, crystal, glass and gramophones are a reminder of the reserves’s rich history. The appeal of this Relais & Châteaux property is that everything about it is deeply personal without detracting from its natural elegance.
