The Rolls Royce of Game Reserves
The safari experience at the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve is second to none. The Big 5 are in abundance and the accommodation is some of the most awe inspiring around. The Sabi Sand Reserve consists of a number of private lodges which are clearly shown on our Sabi Sand map. Because there are no fences, the game moves freely between the reserve and the Kruger National Park.
The Greater Kruger National Park is the largest game reserve in South Africa and one of the world’s biggest wildlife sanctuaries. It includes large tracts of private game reserves on its Western border. The Sabi Sand is the most famous of these and covers approximately 65,000 ha and shares a 50 km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park.
The Sand River flows through the reserve for 50km from northwest to southeast while the Sabie River flows on the southern boundary. The sustenance of these rivers ensures that this area enjoys one of the highest and most diverse concentrations of wildlife in Africa. The Sabi Sand Reserve is also the birthplace of sustainable wildlife tourism in Southern Africa and is the oldest of all the private reserves.
Without doubt, the Sabi Sand is the world's best place to see leopard, not only in frequency, but also in the quality of the sightings - mating, with cubs, hunting, kills and even up trees – every aspect of a leopard’s life can be seen in astonishing detail.
In a private reserve such as the Sabi Sand the rangers can go off road, they can also lead night drives and walking safaris, allowing you to get as close as possible to the action. Get ready for that perfect snap of the hippo mid-yawn!
The most talked about places in Sabi Sand are Singita Boulders and its sister lodge Singita Ebony Lodge. Singita sets the benchmark for luxury safari and is a five time winner of the Conde Naste Traveller Hotel of the year – it’s easy to see why! Meanwhile, at Londolozi, you will be dazzled by the expert knowledge of the rangers and Shangaan trackers - the rest of the staff are young and friendly creating a wonderfully relaxed and informal atmosphere.
But if Londolozi Private Game Reserve and Singita Game Reserves are a little out of your budget, you’ll find exceptional value for money at Exeter River Lodge, Exeter Dulini Lodge and Kirkman's Kamp - some other favourites.
