Kwandwe Private Game Reserve consists of four grand safari lodges, each with its own distinctive charm. Other than Ecca Lodge, Uplands Homestead and Melton Manor, there's Great Fish River Lodge, along the lush banks of the Great Fish River.
Euphorbia and aloes, sneezewood and Karoo Boerbean Trees surround the lodge while the thatched roof soars grandly overhead, adorned with imposing chandeliers. Large fireplaces with massive stone chimneys cast warmth and light over the richly woven rugs, yellowwood kists and wardrobes, hand stitched damask linen and the antique china, pewter and silver typical of an 1820 settler farmhouse.
There are nine suites at the lodge, each with an en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower, and a private veranda and plunge pool to take in the surrounding wilderness from. Enjoy delicious meals during your stay, either from the comfort of your private deck, in the candlit dining room, on the main deck, or in the boma under the African stars.
Kwandwe’s skilled rangers and trackers will take you out on twice daily game drives to seek out the wide variety of animal and bird species, and bring you close to the Big Five and other magnificent animals in the reseve. Go on nighttime adventures exclusive to the Eastern Cape, tracking the nocturnal wildlife by spotlight, animals like the elusive aardvark, aardwolf , bat eared fox and lion.
