Driving up the winding driveway to the Delaire Graff Estate, we had no idea about what to expect. It had been a spontaneous, ooh-let's-pop-in-here occasion, while heading out of Stellenbosch and up the Helshoogte Mountain Pass toward Franschhoek. This world-class winery, restaurant, hotel and spa is a surprise for even those with the highest of expectations.
It demands a visit, even if it’s just for a wine tasting and cheese platter in the wine lounge or on the balcony, overlooking the magnificent mountains, vineyards and gardens with their 300 indigenous, water-wise plants (designed and landscaped by Keith Kirsten, South Africa’s celebrity horticulturalist).
The setting combined with the splendour and elegance of the estate’s lodge and spa, the exterior and interior decor and impression art collection, makes for a romantic affair. Think carefully about who you take with you...
There are two restaurants: the Delaire Graff Restaurant, which offers fine food with fresh, vibrant flavours to be enjoyed either on the terrace under oak trees or within the spectacular interiors. Signature dishes include pickled beetroot Carpaccio with goat's cheese fritters; crayfish lasagne with king oyster mushrooms; pistachio nougat served with rose geranium ice cream. The Indochine Restaurant offers modern Asian Fusion inspired cuisine and also an option of dining inside or out.
Delaire is ideal for the wine connoisseurs among us, with excellent whites, reds and rose. You’re going to want to linger longer here and get as much out of this unique estate. Stay over in the luxurious accommodation; such as the Owner’s Lodge with log fireplace, two bedrooms and private heated pool; the Presidential Lodge with two bedrooms and private pool; and the Deluxe and Luxury Lodges, with private heated Infinity Pool and a Butler’s Kitchen.
Visit the five-star Spa with its four treatment suites, hair care studio and additional relaxation and fitness areas, including a pool, state of the art gym, Pilates studio and more. Luxurious much...?
