The Cellars-Hohenort is in the Constantia Valley – close to Kirstenbosch Gardens. Another world for us City Bowlodytes. A verdant and leafy nether-land brimful of prams, jodhpurs, loafers and Labradors. Rumour has it that Tiger spent some time in these woods attempting to curb his lascivious proclivities.
Cellars-Hohenort unifies two great traditions: the magnificent restoration of the Cellars of the 18th century Klaasenbosch wine estate and the splendid Hohenort manor house. Tucked away in the forested slopes of Table Mountain, the hotel affords breathtaking views across the Constantia Valley to False Bay. With its understated luxury, antique furnishings and original works of art, the hotel is a celebration of traditional values and gracious living. It has over nine acres of landscaped gardens that feature a small vineyard, roses, herbs, indigenous flora and a unique Knot Garden.
The ubiquitous, gold Fleur de Lis will leave you in no doubt that the Cellars-Hohenort is a Relais & Châteaux hotel. More impressively however, the Greenhouse restaurant is home to the kitchen of one of South Africa’s two Grands Chefs – Peter Tempelhoff. He and Margot Janse are in revered company along with the likes of Michel Roux, Jr. and Raymond Blanc. The Greenhouse is certainly deserving of its spot at the top of South Africa’s food chain. Head here for high tea afternoon treats in the Conservatory - scones, cakes, dainty sandwiches, tea and bubbly. Read our blog, Top 10 High Teas in Cape Town, for more information.
There are different room options to choose from, including the suites and premier suites, double rooms and luxury double rooms (with or without their own verandah). For something really exclusive stay in the Madiba Villa - a gorgeous double-story private villa, with its own courtyard, swimming pool, entrance and driveway, a large open-plan sitting and dining room with a fireplace, built-in bar, kitchen and two or three double en-suite bedrooms with walk-in cupboards. The property has two heated swimming pools, a spa, tennis court, a boutique and The Martini Bar, with an outside terrace to enjoy a refreshing drink on.
