We feel we share a certain kindred spirit with the Hippo Boutique Hotel, not only because we're both named after great African animals, but also because most of us at the Rhino Africa HQ walk past this pocket-sized gem every day en route to work and back. It's another landmark in the bustling hub that is our city centre. Being so centrally located, it is the perfect place to stay if you're keen to explore the Mother City on foot or by car. Literally right outside your front door is a strip of fantastic and vibey Cape eateries, bars, cinemas, grocery stores and trendy clothing boutiques. Roam until long after the sun has gone down and simply ramble on back to your home at The Hippo.
Whether you're staying in one of the Hippo's single, double or executive suite rooms, you'll have everything you need to be luxuriously self-contained. Venture a little further to explore the Cape's famous landmarks, such as Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront.
The Hippo has three individually designed suites - all matching a unique theme. The Red Bull suite will make any trendy urban dweller feel right at home, while taking in the superb views of Table Mountain right from the couch. Inspired by the energy drink, Red Bull, and the underground street cultures it has supported for many years, the suite features original artworks by popular artists like Faith47, Black Koki and Senyol. The Mini Cooper suite's double volume space features bold yellow and gold wallpaper, a checkered flag carpet and 60's inspired white leather couch, with an elegant feather chandelier dazzling above. The Hippo suite is an expression of Cape Town's unique urban atmosphere, design and convenience, exhibited through the yellow kudu skin headboard, mood lighting, and the wall covered in the city's ritzy lights.
The suites each have double volume lofts with ultra-modern furnishings, open-plan bedroom/bathroom on a mezzanine level, a spacious lounge area and kitchenette downstairs, a personal computer offering 24 hour internet access and wireless, an ipod charger and dvd-player, among other mod-cons.
There are also 25 air-conditioned en-suite rooms, each complete with luxurious details like fine cotton linen, king-size beds, leather couches, cherry wood floors and interior design that lets you breathe a little deeper. Each room is equipped with a home entertainment centre that includes DSTV, a DVD player, internet access and music system options. Kitchen units have complimentary tea and filter coffee, discreetly hidden behind louvered doors and are equipped with a microwave, fridge and filter coffee plunger machine. There are electronic safes - large enough to accommodate your laptop computer.
