This is an extremely enjoyable self drive tour that encompasses the highlights of Cape Town, Winelands and the Garden Route. With your hire car you have the flexibilty to explore at your own pace, stopping enroute as you see fit. Spend a few days in Cape Town exploring the City, Cape Peninsula, Table Mountain and Robbin Island, before heading east towards the beautiful Cape Winelands. Oudtshoorn and the Garden Route is your next stop where you will spend your days exploring this pretty area, home to many different activities including golf, canopy tours, boat cruises, whale tours and oysters ! Your trip concludes with a two night safari at Kwandwe Private Game Reserve a 22,000 hectare Big Five Reserve 2 hours from Port Elizabeth.

Day 1 - 5 : Cape Town
On arrival at Cape Town Airport you will collect your hire car from Budget Rent a Car. Its a quick an easy drive from Cape Town Airport to your first destination. You will spend the first 4 nights at the Commodore Hotel in the Cape Town. This centrally located hotel allows you to explore the Waterfront safely at night and means that you can walk to shops and restaurants without the need for your car. Spend your days exploring Cape Town, Cape Peninsula, Robben Island and the local attractions.

Day 5 - 6 : Franschhoek

Depart from Cape Town and head to Franschhoek. The Food and Wine Capital of South Africa. Enjoy five star dining in any number of the fabulous restaurants.

Day 6 - 7 : Oudtshoorn

Travelling from the Cape Winelands you will travel through the villages of Robertson, Montagu, Barrydale before joining the famous Route 62 and travelling through the Klein Karoo to Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is known as being the Ostrich Capital of South Africa, but much more than this, it is home to the scenic Swartberg Pass and the spectacular Cango Caves.

Day 7 - 9 : George

From Oudtshoorn you will travel south towards George and Wilderness. Famous for its golf courses, wild beaches and the Outeniqua Mountain Range.

Day 9 - 12 : Knysna

We regard Knysna as the centre of the Garden Route. Our tour includes 3 nights at Hunters Country Lodge. From your base you can explore the area including Plettenberg Bay, Tsitsikamma Forest, Storms River Mouth, The Canopy Tour, Natures Valley, Knysna itself. This is a very beautiful area of the country and there are many things to see and do.

Day 12 - 13 : Port Elizabeth

This morning you will check out of Port Elizabeth and self drive to Port Elizabeth. A simple overnight prior to your safari.

Day 13 - 15 : Eastern Cape Safari

Your time on safari will invariably be the highlight of your trip to Africa. We recommend you arrive in time for lunch ( its about a 2 hour dirve from Port Elizabeth ) Your time on safari includes 2 game drives daily, bush walks and all your meals. The Kwandwe area is home to the Big Five but is particularly well known for its good plains game and being home to Black Rhino.

Day 15 : Day of Departure

This morning you will enjoy a final morning on safari before checking out and self driving back to Port Elizabeth Airport. Drop off your car and your onward travel arrangements.
