Day by Day Outline

Day 1: Johannesburg to Swaziland

You will be met at Johannesburg International airport by your guide and the adventure begins! You will hop aboard a luxury vehicle for the journey to Swaziland, the world's last remaining true monarchy. You journey via Nelspruit and Barberton and into Swaziland through the Golela border post. The drive is scenic and quite spectacular in parts - note the rolling hills and craggy mountain peaks as you pass through the kingdom of the Swazi people.

You will arrive at Bulembu Lodge set in the malaria free mountain village of Bulembu. The lodge was once a residence for miners but has since been converted into a comfortable and secluded lodge. Stay in one of 12 well-appointed en-suite bedrooms and appreciate the peace and quiet of this rustic retreat. The lodge is involved in many community projects that you can visit and the quaint and historic town is well worth exploring. And finish off your first day in Swaziland with an African barbeque under the stars!

Accommodation: Bulembu Lodge
Meals: Dinner, bed and breakfast

Day 2-4: Reilly’s Rock Hilltop Lodge, Ezulwini Valley

Wake up well-rested and enjoy a hearty breakfast in preparation for the day ahead. Spend the morning at leisure relaxing on the lawn, or go on a hike among the grasslands, rocky outcrops, flowing streams and waterfalls. The more adventurous can summit Emlembe, Swaziland’s highest mountain at 1863m.

Depart Bulembu Lodge and head to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, a beautifully secluded conservation area situated in the Ezulwini Valley - Swaziland’s “Valley of Heaven”. Check into Reilly’s Rock Hilltop Lodge, formerly the home of Mickey Reilly, one of Swaziland’s earliest white settlers. The house has remained in the family and has been transformed into a unique hilltop lodge and still stands as it was built almost a century ago. Enjoy an open landrover scenic drive onto the striking Nyonyane Mountain with its exposed granite peak - the “Rock of Execution” - before returning to camp for a well-deserved dinner. You have a few days at leisure here to explore the history and heritage of the Swazi people.

Accommodation: Reilly’s Rock Hilltop Lodge
Meals: Dinner, bed and breakfast

Day 4-6: AmaKhosi Safari Lodge, Kwazulu Natal

It is time to leave Swaziland and head back to South Africa. You cross back over the border and make your way to AmaKhosi Safari Lodge in northern Kwazulu Natal which offers a Big Five Safari in the heart of the wilderness. Stay in magnificent regal River Suites offering special views of the flowing Mkuze River and enjoy 2 game activities per day, as you search for Africa's wild animals.

Boasting 10,000 hectares, the Amazulu Private Game Reserve is made up of a varied ecosystem. This diversity includes savannah, mountains and wetlands which makes it the ideal home to the "Big Five" as well as giraffe, warthog and hyena not to mention over 15 different antelope species, hippopotamus and crocodile. The wetlands offers no less than 400 bird species. And you can explore all this at your leisure!

Accommodation: AmaKhosi Safari Lodge
Meals: Full board basis

Day 6-8: Ponta Mamoli, Mozambique

After your bush experience, it's time for a lazy beach holiday. And where better than the palm-fringed paradise of Mozambique? We head east, crossing over into the former Portuguese colony, and laying down our bags at Ponta Mamoli, rated as one of the top 10 beaches in Southern Africa. Guests will stay here in the lap of luxury for a few days.

While you may just want to laze on a deckchair, catch a tan and wallow in the warm Indian Ocean, there are also an array of activities should you desire. Go scubadiving and snorkelling among the wonders of the underwater world, swim with dolphins, enjoy a spot of whale watching and go horse riding along the beach. If you can leave your deckchair that is!

Day 8-10: Sica's Guesthouse, Durban
