Wild Nights in Selous is certainly not for the faint-hearted but it is probably the most remarkable of our Tanzania Tours. The Selous is the largest unspoilt game reserve in Africa and there is no human habitation here. As part of this safari, you camp in the bush among wild animals with an experienced guide, chef and assistants!

Day 1: Dar-es-Salaam/Zanzibar/Arusha to Selous Game Reserve

You will be picked up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam (or Zanzibar or Arusha) in the afternoon and transferred to the relevant airport for the flight to Selous. On arrival, you will be met by a camp representative and transferred to your lodge with a game drive en-route. You will be staying at Selous Safari Camp on the edge of Lake Nzerekera, a back water to the main Rufiji river. This area is highly populated with game and viewing from one's raised tent is often spectacular.

Day 2: Selous Game Reserve

You have the full day to appreciate the untamed wilderness of the Selous Game Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives, walking safaris and boat trips on a shared basis, on the Rufiji River and its picturesque lagoons. The Selous must be the largest unspoilt game reserve in Africa, immense, remote and wild and no human habitation is allowed within its boundaries, apart from within camps and lodges.

Day 3-4: Selous Game Reserve – Fly Camping

Much as the previous day in Selous, you will go on morning and afternoon shared game activities, walking safaris and boat trips. But this time you will be staying in temporary fly-camps, accompanied by a guide, chef and camp assistants. These are set up as requested in remote corners of the park. Ideal for two to six guests, the emphasis is on walking and tracking animals through forests, open areas and along the sandy shores of meandering rivers. It is a magical experience but not for everyone, as tents are simple though comfortable and animals wander around camp at night. There are hot bucket-showers and toilet facilities are ‘long-drop’ style. With all its bush charm though, most people find fly-camping a very enriching experience.

Day 5: Departure
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Selous airstrip for your flight to Dar-es-Salaam, Arusha or Zanzibar for your onward arrangements. This is the end of services, though our consultants can organise your accommodation, flights, transfers and more!
