Day 1-3: Route 62 Oudtshoorn

Pick up your hired car on arrival at Cape Town Airport and drive to Oudtshoorn along Route 62 – the scenic alternative to the highway. The road goes over spectacular mountain passes, through wine regions, arty villages, Karoo farms and past the Cango Caves. Have an excellent dinner at one of many award-winning restaurants in the town - Jemima's comes highly recommended.

Day 4 – 6: Knysna

Traverse the scenic Swartberg Pass towards your next destination: Knysna, home of forests, oysters, champagne and a picturesque lagoon. Outdoor activities in the area range from sheer indulgence to sheer madness: forest canopy trails, ferry tours, train trips, hiking, biking, canoeing and more. Indoors tends to be a little more sedate with fine restaurants and cosy lounges the clear winners.

Day 7: George or Cape Town

On your final day, you can trundle along to George Airport and continue from there; or you can squeeze the last remnants of fun from your wonderful road trip and drive all the way back to Cape Town.
