Be inspired, on a self-drive holiday through the scenic Garden Route

Staying at some of the South Africa’s most beautiful and  privately owned and managed guesthouses and boutique hotels. This self drive garden route trip allows you to explore the area at your own pace. Starting in Cape Town before exploring the Winelands, De Rust and Plettenberg Bay.  Finish the trip with a safari to the Malaria free Addo Elephant Park.

Day 1  - 5 : Cape Town

On arrival at Cape Town Airport you will be met by a representative who will welcome you and assist you with your luggage as well as help collect your hire car.  You will self drive yourself to  Welgelegen You will overnight for 4  nights. Welgelgen is a homely and warm guesthouse and   is situated in the beautiful residential area of Orangezicht.

Day 5 – 7 : Winelands

This morning you will self drive yourselves to Franschoek where you will be staying at Klein Genot   The Guesthouse is situated in the beautiful Franschoek Valley on an private wine estate and farm.  The guesthouse has a well stocked wine cellar &  beautiful interiors.

Day 7 – 8 : De Rust

Travel up the beautiful R 62 through the Klein Karoo and via Oudtshoorn to de Rust.   You will overnight at the pretty Housemartin Guesthouse which is well known for its excellent food and service.

Day 8  - 11 :  Plettenberg

This morning we suggest that you spend the morning exploring Oudsthoorn. This is the tourist capital of the Little Karoo and ostrich capital of South Africa with thousands of the beady-eyed birds all over the place There is no shortage of things to do in this locality with a tour through the fascinating Cango Caves of stalagmites and stalactites, and Cheetahland, a place where you can stroke the fastest animal on earth while it purrs like a tractor.  After a morning in Oudtshoorn self drive yourselves to Plettenberg Bay.

You will spend 3 nights and the modern and fashionable Lodge on the Bay. The lodge has spectacular seaviews and no luxury has been overlooked in the decoration of this modern and bright sea side villa. You will have the next 2 days at leisure to explore – or simply to relax on the beaches.

Day  11 – 12 : Port Elizabeth

This morning check out of the Lodge of the Bay and drive via Tsitsikamma and Storms River Mouth to Port Elizabeth. Windermere is a luxury boutique hotel a few minutes from the beachfront and makes a perfect overnight stop over in order to get to the Addo Elephant Park early in the morning.

Day 12 – 14 : Elephant House

After breakfast you will check out  and drive yourself to the Elephant House just outside Addo.  During your time at Elephant House you can self drive yourself into the Addo Elephant Park. Should you wish to be professionally guided then join a morning or afternoon game drive into the park or the famous Tooth and Claw Safari at a nearby farm.

Day 14 : End of Arrangements

This morning you will enjoy a final morning at Elephant House before self driving yourself back to Port Elizabeth where you will drop off your hire car before making your onward travel arrangements.
