Mauritius Destinations

North, South, East or West - which is the best?

Mauritius is a relatively small island, most places are not more than an hour's drive away from the international airport in the south, so you can be sipping an ice-cold cocktail at your beach resort in no time after landing! The North Coast is probably the most developed part of the country for tourism, with an array of resorts and hotels nestled around Grand Baie, the largest resort town on the island. There is certainly no shortage of things to do but it can get quite crowded at times.

The East Coast is home to some exclusive getaways straddling the dramatic and tempestuous Indian Ocean coastline, offering a luxury retreat from the elements. It can be serene at times too. The West Coast is an excellent choice if calm, crystal clear waters are your thing. These beaches offer great swimming, snorkelling, diving and other water sports, and are a good choice for families.

The South Coast is the least developed region, with fewer resorts and smaller guesthouses and hotels. There are less activities on offer but if you want a secluded island escape with your loved one, then you have certainly come to the right place!
