Anjajavy on the northwest tip of Madagascar is the most remote place we have ever been to. It’s a 1,5 hour plane ride from Antananarivo to Anjajavy L'Hotel with amazing views. Arriving at the hotel feels like walking into paradise. It’s a very impressive Relais & Châteaux property and Cedric, the General Manager, is one of the most passionate people we have ever met on our travels. When we think of world-class accommodation at Rhino Africa, Anjajavy L'Hotel is near the top of our list.
In the front of the hotel is the softest, green grass with love birds ambling about and an infinity pool surrounded by palm trees leading down to the beach. Anjajavy is famous for its tropical gardens, the Oasis, which house the island's most rare and beautiful species - lemurs and sifakas, rare birds, chameleons and reptiles - all to be seen while enjoying afternoon tea. High tea with the lemurs! Where else in the world can you do that? The primates naturally cross the area at 4:30pm every day. It is definitely worth exploring the surrounding 450 hectares of forest, home to over 1,800 floral species.
The restaurant dishes up local specialities and international cuisine and you can wine and dine on the beach under the stars. There are eight private beaches on the property and simple classy double storey rosewood villas spread out among the lush gardens. Each villa is airconditioned with a spacious terrace looking onto the Indian Ocean. On the ground floor is the master bedroom, bathroom and shower, and a cosy lounge area. There is a loft room with extra beds for children or other guests. Enjoy cooling dips in the 200 metre pool and catch a tan on the beach.
A range of massages and treatments are available and there is a fantastic selection of activities on offer, such as bike rides, snorkelling, canoeing, catamaran sailing, walks, windsurfing and go on boats trips to the nearby villages, before returning to the hotel for a Malagasy foodie feast. Anjajavy L'Hotel is the epitomy of the tropical wonderland that is Madagascar.
