Makalolo Plains is a supreme tented camp in the remote Makalolo Concession in the southern sector of Hwange National Park. It is without a doubt one of the best camps within the reserve, renowned for its service and wildlife experience. The entire camp is raised on wooden decks thus ensuring spectacular views of the park's contrasting landscapes and the parade of wildlife that passes through them. It overlooks the Somavundla Pan which is frequently visited by plains game and predators, as well as huge herds of elephant and buffalo. The main lodge has a lounge with a roaring fireplace keeping you warm on chilly winter evenings and a well-stocked pub. Wine and dine inside at the elegant sitting area or at the outdoor boma. And there is a plunge pool to wallow in during the heat of day or you could catch a tan on the deckchairs.
Accommodation consists of 10 tented suites, each raised on a wooden deck and connected to the main lodge by winding walkways. Each tent has been erected within a wooden house, with a private verandah and double doors opening out into the pristine wilderness. Facilities include a well-appointed en-suite bathroom, with an indoor and outdoor shower and all the creature comforts one would expect of such an establishment. We like it a lot.
Raised on wooden decks and with 10 tented suites, Makalolo Plains has spectacular views of the Hwange Park and overlooks the Somavundla Pan which attracts herds of elephant and plains game, with predators following suit.

A game viewing extravaganza!
A spectacular Safari awaits you at Makalolo Plains. As part of a private concession, there are very few tourists giving you unbridled access to the uninhibited bush and all the animals that are part of it. This is not just the regular 'tick off the Big Five' Safari - these animals are just the tip of the iceberg. Informative rangers will make countless sightings on game drives, track rhino and other animals on guided walks or point out indigenous bird species. It is also worth hanging out in a hide and waiting for Africa's wild things to come your way, and in the winter months the whole region is jampacked with wildlife. The armchair viewing over the Somavundla Pan is superb and there are many more pans in the area which attract an array of prey, predators and plains game!
